Sigma 15-24mm f/1.8, 16-28mm f/1.8, and 18-30mm f/1.8 Patents Found

Here are some newly spotted wide-angle Sigma zoom lens patents that are f/1.8. The Sigma 15-24mm f/1.8, 16-28mm f/1.8, and 18-30mm f/1.8 could all be useful zooms, but they will likely be very expensive given their fast apeture.

  • Applicant: Sigma Co., Ltd.
    Publication number: P2022126058
    Application number: P 2021023909
    Publication date: 2022-08-30Title
    of invention: Zoom lens
  • A large aperture wide-angle zoom lens capable of high-speed AF control, suppressing aberration fluctuations during focusing, and compatible with a large format camera is provided with a compact optical system.
  • The zoom lens described in Patent Document 1 achieves weight reduction of the focus group. However, it is difficult to apply to a large-aperture zoom lens because of its dark open F-number and insufficient correction of various aberrations such as longitudinal chromatic aberration and curvature of field.
  • The zoom lens described in Patent Document 2 achieves weight reduction of the focus group and improves longitudinal chromatic aberration and curvature of field as compared with Patent Document 1. However, since the total length of the optical system is long, it is not realistic to make the optical system extremely large if it is to be used with a large-aperture camera or a large-format camera with a large maximum image height.
  • According to the present invention, the optical system is made compact by shortening the overall length and reducing the outer diameter. The focus lens group is light, and high-speed AF control is possible. It is possible to provide a large-aperture, wide-angle zoom lens that can be used with any camera and has high optical performance.

Tokina atx-m 11-18mm f/2.8 E lens Announced for Sony E-mount

The new Tokina atx-m 11-18mm f/2.8 E lens for Sony E-mount cameras is now available for pre-order at B&HPhoto.

The Tokina atx-m 11-18mm F2.8 E is the first super wide angle zoom lens in Tokina’s product line-up designed exclusively for mirrorless cameras. It features a fast f/2.8 aperture throughout the zoom range, and a 11-18mm (17-27mm in 35mm equivalent) zoom stored in a compact and lightweight body for hybrid users who shoot stills and video.

The new optical formula features a 67mm front filter and has 13 elements in 11 groups. Inside are two aspherical elements and two super-low dispersion elements for chromatic aberration and coma control—great for wide-angle astrophotography. A 9-blade rounded aperture diaphragm gives great rendition of out-of-focus highlights for excellent bokeh—especially when used with its 7.4″ close-focus capability.

The autofocus ST-M motor is designed for near-silent operation and is compatible with Sony’s 5-axis image stabilization systems, Direct Manual Focus, MF Assist Mode, Eye AF, and in-camera Optical Correction technology. Continue reading “Tokina atx-m 11-18mm f/2.8 E lens Announced for Sony E-mount”

Samyang V-AF Lens Family For Sony E-mount

Samyang Optics has introduced a new lens line-up for Sony E-Mount full frame mirrorless cameras. Samyang has announced it will be introducing 5 lenses to a newly announced family of optics designed to be used with Sony E-Mount Full-Frame Mirrorless cameras.

The new V-AF family has been designed specifically for video creators, to make content creation more convenient. The first lens from this new line-up is the V-AF 75mm T1.9. Samyang will release four more lenses – 20mm, 24mm, 35mm & 45mm – before the end of 2023.

A unified form factor that’s compact & light

All V-AF lenses provide greater compatibility with gimbals and drones because they all have the same form factor across 5 different focal lengths (ultra-wide to medium-telephoto). Compact dimensions of 73mm x 70mm and a light weight of less than 300g, means there is no need to re-set equipment when changing lenses.

Tally lamp for enhanced functionality

The tally lamp located on the front of the lens indicates to the presenter whether video is being recorded or not. It means video content creation is more convenient, even in small spaces and without a lot of equipment.

Supports colour-matched 8K recording

The new V-AF series supports resolutions up to 8K and all lenses are colour-matched to avoid shifts when swapping lenses. Nine aperture blades create a superb, natural-looking bokeh.

Custom Switch & Button

The lens features a custom switch and button that enables access to video-specific functions, such as Focus Save, quickly and easily.

Detailed information on the new V-AF series can be found on the Samyang Optics official website
