Sony A7 IV rumors continue to swirl as the new hybrid king expected to feature improved burst shooting performance. The upcoming a7S IV (ILCE-7SM4) is a full frame mirrorless camera to be announced in 2024 to 2025, it will be replacement of Sony A7s III. According to Sony Rumors, the Sony A7 IV is also set to see upgrades to its video capabilities, with the new camera rumored to have 4K60p video.
The Sony a7S III camera has been on the market for nearly four years since its release in 2020. With the usual upgrade cycle being around three to four years for Sony’s Alpha line, a successor model – potentially named the a7S IV – is due for release soon. The rumored specifications include a 20.5 megapixel sensor that outputs 19 megapixels, matching the resolution of Sony’s FX9 cinema camera.
The new dual-layer sensor technology with larger photodiodes could allow over 2x higher sensitivity in low light conditions. Other rumored capabilities pointing to a focus on maximized video performance include 6K video resolution, wide range of frame rates up to 120fps, oversampled sharp 4K video from the 6K capture, built-in 8 stops of image stabilization, a secondary 25,600 ISO sensitivity setting for extremely dark conditions, and ample cooling to avoid overheating issues.
If these specifications prove accurate, the a7S IV looks positioned as an incremental upgrade over the still highly-capable a7S III, justifying a price increase from $3499 to $4000. But fans eagerly await the official announcement from Sony for confirmation if and when the next generation a7S series camera will emerge. For now, the rumors can only hint at what exciting innovations may come next for Sony’s leader in low light video-centric mirrorless camera models.
